Corrections Officer Arrested On Drug Charges

A Folsom State Prison correctional officer was arrested on accusations that he forged doctors' prescriptions in order to illegally obtain painkillers, according to authorities.

Billy Humphries, 37, allegedly tried to pass a phony prescription for Oxycontin at a Walgreens on Clarksville Road in Folsom.

The pharmacist spotted the faked doctor's signature and immediately called 911, Folsom police said.

Detectives dressed in civilian clothes waited for the suspect outside the drug store and arrested him once he walked out, according to Folsom Police Sgt. Jason Browning. The arresting officers also found evidence in Humphries' car, including crushed pills and blank prescription forms, authorities said.

"There was a residue that was consistent with actually snorting the drug," Browning said.

Oxycontin is an opiate with similarities to heroin.

Investigators say Humphries became addicted to the painkillers after getting a legal prescription from his doctor.
