Jury May Soon Get Tracy Teen Torture Case

STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) -- Jury deliberations may soon get under way in the case of a Central California man accused of participating in the torture of a teen neighbor.

Closing arguments in the trial of 31-year-old Anthony Waiters went into their second day Thursday.

The Contra Costa Times reports that prosecutors said Wednesday that Waiters would frequently come to the Tracy home where Kyle Ramirez was being held captive by his legal guardian and the couple who owned the home.

Ramirez testified that Waiters cut him, lit his pants on fire and beat him unconscious between 2007 and 2008, when he escaped.

Waiters' attorney, Allan Jose, told jurors there is no physical evidence to confirm Ramirez's testimony.

Waiters is the only defendant to stand trial, after the other three reached plea deals.
