Congressional Races, Attorney General Remain Tight

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Two Democratic congressmen are holding slim leads in their bids for re-election to their Northern California districts.

The secretary of state's office reported Friday that Rep. Jim Costa held a 2,422 vote edge over Republican Andy Vidak in the 20th Congressional District. That was a 3 percentage point advantage in a district that spans parts of Kings, Kern and Fresno counties.

Rep. Jerry McNerney was leading by 1,783 votes over Republican David Harmer. His lead in the 11th Congressional District was less than 1 percentage point.

The district includes parts of the eastern San Francisco Bay area and the San Joaquin Valley.

In the attorney general's race, Democrat Kamala Harris leads Republican Steve Cooley by less than 1 percentage point.

Counties have until Nov. 30 to complete their ballot tallies.
