Iceland Skating Rink's Reopening Halted By Sacramento City Leader

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The iconic Iceland Skating Rink is set to re-open soon but one Sacramento city councilmember is delaying the opening set for next week.

Seven months after someone set the rink on fire, the building stands again but without a roof.

Sacramento City Councilwoman Sandy Sheedy is delaying the reopening saying Iceland needs to promise extra fixes down the road like a new roof and a new front entrance so customers aren't entering in the alley.

"We would like a roof right now. That's part of the reason we've done a non-profit. We need to raise a million dollars," said Iceland Director Terrie Kerth.

The rink wanted to re-open in time for their 21st Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on December 9th but the earliest the city council can look at their plans is the 14th. So there's no telling when people will skate again.
