Lodi Gets Downtown Christmas Tree After 4th Try

LODI, Calif. (AP) -- The fourth time was the charm for Lodi leaders trying to bring some holiday cheer into town.

Some had begun wondering if they were dealing with a Christmas curse after three failed attempts to bring a tree to the downtown plaza.

The first tree was vandalized while being delivered from the Sierras last week. Then a donated redwood from a Rocklin resident fell apart while being moved, and a third one also crumbled at a Camino tree farm during the hauling process Thursday.

But the Camino farm's owner, Larry Hyder, quickly offered up another one, and a crew was able to transport it without a major hitch.

The Lodi News-Sentinel reports that workers quickly decorated the 30-foot white fir in time for the city's Parade of Lights on Thursday night.
