SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Sacramento Police have identified a suspect at the center of a search Friday morning in the downtown area.

The suspect is 29-year-old Jonathan Adams. Adams has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for being under the influence.

Several streets in downtown Sacramento were closed Friday morning after police received reports of a man with a rifle in a downtown building on Q and 7th Street.

At 6:40 a.m., the suspect allegedly had a confrontation with a security guard at the building and said he had a gun. Although the security guard did not see the gun, heavily armed police and SWAT officers surrounded the building, closed off nearby streets and evacuated nearby businesses.

Police in midtown Sacramento located the vehicle believed to belong to the suspect, and at 11:45 a.m., detained the man. A pellet rifle was found inside the suspect’s car.

Hope they do better than Roseville FD and the Galleria fire.

  • Kalifornian

I don’t think that guy is breaking any laws… yet.

  • Charles Marin

Ummm, Kalifornian, he’s downtown with a rifle. But there aren’t any indoor/outdoor shooting ranges in the downtown area the last time I checked. But he’s not “breaking an laws” so let’s just let him go for now? Yeah. Great observation; he’s not breaking any laws. Brilliant point.

  • SBonnet

$5 says it turns out to be a homeless guy with a stick for picking recyclables out of trash cans…

  • trinity9

They already shut down the city– is that better?

  • homer

Hope they didn’t turn off the fire sprinklers

  • Monica

Lets hope he stays in the parking garage, we have day care centers down in that area with our little children.

  • chuck newsome

they were lucky they didnt start shooting at each other, then the bee would of had a better story.

  • caffeinated916

Uuuuum,Charles Marin, Kalifornian did make a great observation, the fact is that it is perfectly legal to carry an unloaded firearm in public. Although, it’s not the smartest thing to do after you’ve had a confrontation with a security guard. Furthermore, it’s just a rumor that the man is armed, but if the police were called I’m sure the suspect made some threats that involved a gun. The people on edge always seem to snap during the holidays; just means that all of us no to spread more love and give as much as we can to others.

    2nd Amendment, duh

  • guyjeb

“police have not confirmed there is a man with a rifle in the building” LOL

“a white man about 5’8″ tall weighing 150 pounds with long brown or blond hair” Double LOL

SBonnet, Your right. thats exactly what it is. and he’s probably watching himself on the news right now.

  • Matthew B.

Quit being so self indulged. Worrying about your damn kids when we all know they wiil shoot this innocent man. Innocent until proven guilty. It’s not illegal to carry a gun in the first place maybe he is just exercising the first amendment.

  • Marinading916

LOL. I’m with S. Bonnet on this one. $5 says it’s a homeless guy. Scary security guards probably just said he had a gun so the cops would come faster. Apparently that didn’t work because the call went in @ 6:22am and they didn’t arrive until 7am. Who else sees a problem with that. Especially when there are more police in that concentrated area. Good thing he didn’t start picking off people with his trash stick. LOL

  • JP

From the report, readers are lacking considerable evidence. I wouldn’t make any judgements on the situation until a more thorough report comes out. I hope this is a false alarm, however, the police aren’t joking about it at all. Aside from the late response of course.

  • Local Worker

Its a homeless guy that regularly attack people down there. He has been living in that lot.

  • Monica

I hardly think that my comment is being self indulgent- look up the friggin word, when there is a rumor of anyone walking around with a gun and then it provokes the police to come out with their weapons, it is cause for concern. Especially us who have small children near by. Matthew- your an ass.

  • David

What a joke!!!! Any laws broken yet? Nice wast of the tax payers money! Good time to rob a bank!

  • Always Ask Why

Charles Martin- Before you step onto your high horse and start pointing out other peoples brilliant points, I suggest you re-read the article again- SLOWLY.

It very specifically states that it is unconfirmed that this man is armed. The police spokesman also stated that the man “never displayed a gun” during the confrontation with the guard. A rifle would have been hard to miss.

They should have waited until they had more information before they even reported this story.

  • bnickel

what would you have done so much better with that fire? let me here your rambo theory… pretty sure they know what they are doing. try not to get any crumbs on the keyboard.

  • Lew Ninwosix

I agree totaly. Police are crooked individuals well, most of them. Soon the people will see

  • Kevin Earl Ray

Wow what a news event this was a homeless guy taking on the swat team with a stick! Not news worthy and a big waste of money!

  • Kevin Earl Ray

I’m sorry but this is your typical long arm of the law over re-acting to a mhomeless man with a stick ! Down boys!

  • Adam

Those who think the cops are over reacting are full on idiots. If you make threatening statements to someone (ie the security guard) and you carry anything that resembles a weapon, you are putting yourself at great risk. The police have to respond heavily in that situation.

Had it been a real gun and they didn’t you same idiots would find fault in that response too!

  • David_Midtown

You guys are idiots! (the ones who said anything about it being legal to carry weapons so the cops overreacted etc) . This guy threatened another person and in that threat he stated he had a gun. Are you guys so checked out that you just need to bash the cops every chance you get!? this city is being lost to criminal activity and you think they overreacted?!?! how stupid. They took appropriate action and that it ended without anyone getting hurt is what matters. They guy cannot conceal a weapon or Threaten anyone with it or even without it. Threats used to intimidate or scare people with harm are also illegal. Gosh you guys are dumb dumb dumb and dumb.

  • sacking

I wouldn’t have turned off the water in the middle of a fire.

  • caffeinated916

David no need to be a rude @#$hole. And I did say, if a threat was made then the law was broke. If the guy made a threat to do harm then he got what he deserved. And I’m glad that they caught him.

  • Kalifornian

Yes, absolutely… This is America and there is no law against carrying a rifle around town… nor is there any law prohibiting the unloaded open carry of a pistol. People need to quite begging for a nanny state. If you fear armed gunmen, then train, carry, and get all of your friends to do the same.
Quit calling the cops every time someone has a gun or they will BAN guns!!!
See 2a (note the word BEAR)…

  • Kalifornian

    2nd amendment… LOL

  • Kalifornian

    quit… typo

  • Kalifornian

Had he had a real gun and confronted a security guard you’d think the cops would have showed up to pick up the body.

  • Kalifornian

Threats are illegal…. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the FREEDOM OF SPEECH…”
    Who’s dumb?

  • Don Livingston

these are the people who need help the most not jail !!! tis the season find them fix them
