Police Pursuit Ends In Crash On Highway 50

SACRAMENTO COUNTY (CBS13) - Traffic was backed up on eastbound Highway 50 in Rancho Cordova Thursday morning after a driver fleeing from police after a hit an run crashed.

The crash happened  just east of Bradshaw Road shortly after 8 a.m.   The car overturned and slammed into the soundwall off the side of the highway.

Police say the incident began when a three car accident was reported at Power Inn Road and Highway 50.  When officers arrived, the driver sped away onto Highway 50. 

The pursuing officer said it appeared the female driver was deliberately trying to crash her car into the center divide.  The driver then lost control, veered across all eastbound lanes and overturned her vehicle slamming into the soundwall.

When the officer approached the car, he said it appeared the woman was trying to cut herself.  She was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries and for a mental evaluation.
