Two Arrested In Merced Co. Murder

MERCED (CBS13) - Merced County Sheriff's deputies say they have arrested two people in connection with the murder of young woman whose baby was found abandoned on a door step last week.

Deputies arrested Teresa Robles, 33, and Jose Velarde, 37, of Planada for the murder of 26-year-old Ana Diaz.

Diaz's body was found burning in an orchard in Snelling on Dec. 2.  Her baby boy, Anthony, was found abandoned on the doorstep of a La Grange home a week later.

Detectives arrested Robles at a home on Market Street in Planada.  After further investigation, they also arrested Velarde and charge both with murder.

The motive for the killing is still unclear but detectives believe Diaz was killed at Robles' home.

Detectives are also trying to determine if Robles and Velarde are the same couple that witnesses say were trying to sell a baby on December 3.
