Pilot Behind Security Videos Goes Public

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- The local commercial airline pilot who made international headlines by posting videos of his concerns over airport security revealed his identity Monday.

Colfax resident Chris Liu said he made the videos after becoming frustrated with the Transportation Security Administration's procedures at San Francisco International Airport.

The videos, posted on YouTube, showed what appear to be lax security procedures toward ground personnel. Flight crews have to go through the same security as every passenger, but ground crews simply need a key card to get through a single door.

"This is kind of ridiculous," Liu said in one of the videos.

The videos sparked a worldwide debate over airport security and Liu's choice to go public with the information.

Most comments online have praised him for stepping forward, but others have sharply criticized him for his tactics.

Federal agents have already confiscated the gun Liu carried into the cockpit as part of a Homeland Security anti-terrorism program, but he is still working as a pilot.

Chris Liu had previously received news coverage when a rental home he owned in Oak Park exploded in July, injuring four firefighters. A neighbor has been arrested for the incident.
