SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A midtown store owner said he was surprised to hear that a young robbery suspect is accused of shooting and killing another suspect on accident after trying to rob his business.

Satnam Singh said he heard his wife scream Monday evening while he was in the back of his store, and he ran to the disturbance while still carrying soda in his hands and found two armed suspects inside his store.

“I heard the scream, and I come out and I have two liters in my hand, and I throw it at his face and then chase him… to the door,” Singh said.

The two suspects fled out of the door, and Singh said he heard a gunshot outside his store. The Sacramento Police Department wouldn’t speak about any details on the case, but said they believed 19-year-old Marquis Greenwood accidentally shot 18-year-old Tiekarian Troutman during the course of the robbery attempt.

Both suspects got into a getaway car, and Singh said he didn’t know one of the suspects was wounded.

Troutman’s alleged partners in crime dropped him off at a nearby clinic, and he later died at the hospital.

Singh said it was the first time in 30 years his store has been robbed.

Police have charged Greenwood and a 16-year-old girl with murder and attempted robbery.
