San Joaquin Co. Correctional Officer Arrested For Smuggling Cell Phones To Inmates

FRENCH CAMP (CBS13) – A San Joaquin County correctional officer is behind bars himself after being arrested on charges of smuggling contraband into a jail.

San Joaquin Co. Sheriff's detectives arrested Correctional Officer Michael McCann while he was on the job at the San Joaquin County Jail. 

He is accused of smuggling cell phones into the jail and giving them to inmates.

Investigators were first tipped off to allegations on January 3rd. 

The Sheriff's department says the investigation is ongoing and more charges against McCann are likely.

McCann has been an employee of the Sheriff's Office since January 2002 and has been placed on Administrative Leave.
