Hostage Situation Ends After Standoff

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- An armed Minnesota man who traveled to Sacramento after meeting a teen girl online barricaded himself inside a home for hours Sunday evening while authorities attempted to convince him to surrender, police said.

The Sacramento Police Department said the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Syu Yang, arrived at the residence on the 8500 block of Montpelier Way to meet a 16-year-old girl for the first time.

Yang pulled a handgun during an argument, authorities said.

When officers arrived at the scene, Yang came out of the home, pointed his gun at officers, and retreated back inside the home, according to authorities. Yang allegedly told police he wouldn't leave the home voluntarily.

Police evacuated residents from nearby homes and called SWAT team members to the scene after learning that four juvenile girls were still being held inside the house.

Negotiators convinced Yang to release the two youngest hostages after about two hours, and the suspect released the other two girls and surrendered just before 9:00 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
