ROSEVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) — A man has been arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after hitting and seriously injuring an off-duty Sacramento police officer near a Roseville restaurant.

The officer, identified as 47-year-old Detective Bobby Daniels, was standing in front of the Chili’s restaurant on Blue Oaks Boulevard just before 2:00 p.m. when the driver of a 1993 Jeep SUV lost control while making a turn onto Fairway Drive and jumped onto the sidewalk.

Daniels was thrown into the Jeep’s windshield by the impact and then pulled underneath the car, which dragged him back onto the roadway.

The 15-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department was rushed to the hospital for treatment for serious head injuries, including a skull fracture.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Ilia Arthur Wong of Rocklin, was booked into the Roseville City Jail on $50,000 bail on charges of driving while intoxicated.

A section of southbound Fairway Drive south of Blue Oaks Boulevard was closed Saturday evening while authorities investigated.

It was reported that the pedestrian was hit and then pinned under the car, his head crushed. Very very sad. :(

  • Linda

Drunk drivers make me SICK!! Harsher sentences!!

  • Alyce Ruberg

What waste of a human. Thin the herd of him.

  • sad.

Wow. I feel so bad for the off-duty Sacramento police officer. Especially since the SAC P.D. are the ones that actually catch murderers, go on high-speed chases, and catch other dangerous people to society. Unlike the Rocklin P.D., who cruises up and down the streets all day writing fix-it tickets and window tint tickets. They need to relocate some of the Rocklin officers to the Sac P.D. They actually have business to attend to and warrants to worry about.
In any case, my prayers go out to the injured cop. He is a hero and it is definitely not easy being an officer in Sacramento.

  • Swjordan

oh God. As a wife of a police officer I could not imagine how devasting this would be. I am so sorry they have to deal with this.

  • mike

My thoughts and prayers go out to the officers famiy. I hope the suspect gets what he deserves. THE BOOK THROWN AT HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Devon H

I absolutely agree, the man is a part of an effective team of crime stoppers where we need it most and don\’t have enough personnel already… to have this tragedy bestowed upon him is tragic. I pray for his recovery and I give thanks for his call to duty to protect me and others… In response to \”sad.\”, I agree it would be in the best interest of the Rocklin community if some of their officers went out and got a little bit of seasoning as to what it means to be a police officer, instead of multiple officers harassing children over being at the park after sunset. I\’ve seen a Rocklin officer do some DISGUSTING things to our community\’s children, first hand. It is time for the parents (who think the Rocklin PD are doing such a wonderful job) to wake up and closely watch what goes on, your children aren\’t lying to you. I\’m not just trying to knock them out of spite, I really do believe several officers in the department are out of control… Anyways, I send all my love out to Detective Daniels and his family. Please make a full recovery sir! Thank you for your service.

  • Roads are dangerous in Rose/Rock

People in Roseville/Rocklin can NOT drive. Every time I go out there, someone almost hits me!! It happens every single time! The drivers in Roseville/Rocklin seem to be unusually oblivious and unaware of the cars/people around them. When I drive in Sacramento, I typically feel safe and feel that the drivers are ALERT. In Roseville and Rocklin, the drivers seem to think they are the only person on the road, and the entire road is theirs. Its ridiculous. My mother is 51, has absolutely NEVER been in a car accident, and she was HIT for the first time in ROCKLIN. I’m telling you……. The drivers are the WORST I’ve ever seen!!! I know I sound like I am venting, but I have had some EXTREMELY, extremely close calls when driving in Roseville & Rocklin. PEOPLE – PAY ATTENTION TO THE CARS AROUND YOU! YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY PERSON ON THE ROAD! I see people swerving and speeding like crazy when I go out there. The people just can not drive. Or they don’t care to drive correctly.
Oh, and NEVER – I repeat, never – drive in Roseville / Rocklin at night. If you are on the roads in Rocklin past 11:00pm, JUST EXPECT & BE PREPARED FOR DRUNK DRIVERS. I have seen people driving BLATANTLY DRUNK, all over the road, at night in both places. I was driving on Rocklin Road around midnight the other day, and out of nowhere, a brand new BMW 750 came flying past me doing at LEAST 90mph. It looked to me like 100mph. All I’m saying is – there are drunk drivers ALL over the road at night in Roseville/Rocklin. I GUESS SINCE THEY LIVE IN THE ‘BURBS THEY THINK THEY CAN DO WHATEVER THEY WANT!! Well its completely ignorant to me, and I have relatives that live in the Roseville and Rocklin areas. Next time I see someone being a JERK on the road, I am going to follow them and tell them THANKS FOR PUTTING EVERYONE ELSE IN DANGER WITH YOUR SHAMEFUL DRIVING!

Pshh. I know this guy. He wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
I can’t believe he hit a person though. A COP at that. I know he didn’t do it on purpose, but how could you get yourself into this?? Don’t drive under the influence of ANYthing!!!

  • steve jorgenson

PURPLERAIN I would not be proud nor admit that I know this POS. He was drunk at 2pm in the afternoon and hit a father, husband and someone that protects your butt everyday. I hope your buddy gets life….

  • John F. Relles

Why $50,000? Why not $500,000? Keep him jail forever and won’t hurt anybody again!

  • Your mom

Looks like the off-duty cop was in the Wong place at the Wong time…

  • steve jorgenson

Your Mom that is a really great post. You seem like a poet and you didnt even know it. Go back to your porn blog and leave this to blog to people that care for the ones that protect and serve.. Bobby needs our prayers right now… thats it…

  • Your mom

Thanks, I thought it was pretty clever myself. ;)

  • purplerain

?? Nowhere did I say I was proud of knowing him, nor did I imply it. So stop making assumptions you jerk. You even had the nerve to come to YOUR OWN CONCLUSION that the person a few comments below me participates in porn blogs. And I personally could care less if he gets life.

    YOU MISINTERPRETED MY COMMENT.

  • Your mom

Yeah, Mr. “Steve Jorgenson”. Get off your soapbox already, you arrogant windbag.

  • SoCalDJ

I was at the restaurant & outside the front doors when it happened & by the Grace of God, I’m thankful that I was not hit by this kid. I can gratefully go home & see my wife & daughter in one piece. I am, however, devastated by whom he did hit & am lifting “Bobby” (along with his family) up in prayer for a swift recovery. I can not imagine what his wife is going through & can only hope that today’s image somehow be erased from her mind (easier said than done, I’m sure). To all you people (young, old, male, female) who think “this would never happen to you because you’re more careful than then this young kid was”, think again the next time to want to get high on anything & get behind the wheel of a death machine, because that’s what you might as well call it if you’re willing to do it.

  • astrokng

Two things. Kings Basketball players live up here and are drunk and driving their souped up cars plus Thunder Valley Casino attracks lots of Asian and others who get drunk then have to drive home.

  • Rocklin High School

Really sad that Illa went and did this, he always got in trouble in high school and never really had a head on his soldiers, now he will be in jail for a very long time

  • Sevnth

I hope the officer is recovering rapidly.
I to have heard this as well about the Rocklin PD, as they were being compared to the PD’s in the Stanislaus area, and THAT was all I needed for a description. It’s bizarre how different two PD’s can be so close to each other.
My son set off to buy two parts for his vehicle he’s restoring, one part was in Rocklin, one in Modesto, he got pulled over in Rocklin the instant he got there because “he matched the description of a suspect” -yeah- then got to Modesto to get pulled over again for “back window tint” – He was in my untouched FACTORY truck. Then he got bad directions back to the freeway and ended up turning around in a lil town called Turlock and got pulled over AGAIN, this time the “officer” said his “License Plate Light” wasn’t working – Again, 2 year old truck still under warranty, the light works fine, and the sun wasn’t even down all the way.
Good police should be praised, because these days they are very rare.

To address your comment about officers harassing kids in the parks after sunset. There are signs posted that the parks close at sunset!! There are ordinances and laws also. You must not live across from a park. Their is so much drug dealing and drinking done in the parks. I live across from a park where after sunset the kids come out and do drugs and drink. I call the cops. They end up vandalizing the park and the homes near the park! Also I have watch gang fights, hazings, domestic battery and much more. As for the parents waking up, yes they need to. they need to be PARENTS. Which means controlling their damn children and be more active in their lives.

    @ fn2bhd
You’ve got to be JOKING ME if you’re seriously claiming there are GANGS in Rocklin. There is absolutely NO gang activity in this little high-class yuppie suburb. Gang fights??? Come on now, GET REAL. There are NO gangs in Rocklin. That’s gotta be a joke. GANG FIGHTS yeah right. I live in Rocklin and I see a black person once every two months. I see a Mexican maybe once every few weeks. There are NO MINORITIES out here, and there are DEFINITELY no gang issues. I can’t believe you honestly believe there are gangs/gang fights out here in the Whitest, richest suburb of Sacramento. Here’s an idea, if you don’t know what a GANG really is, MOVE TO SACRAMENTO!! MOVE TO MACK ROAD, THEN TELL ME HOW MUCH OF A “GANG PROBLEM” WE HAVE IN ROCKLIN. You are utterly ridiculous. I’ve lived in Roseville/Rocklin for MANY years and I have NEVER, EVER seen a gang, or even a person who looked like they were in a gang.
As for “hazing”, what type of hazing are you TALKING about?? The college kids at William Jessup University? Yeah right. You’re definitely not talking about the students at Sierra College because I have been attending Sierra for 2 years and we don’t even have fraternities/sororities, so there is definitely no hazing going on with Sierra students. So what are you talking about?? I, too live near a park, and I have NEVER seen any type of violence or commotion you are talking about. The worst I have seen are teens smoking cigarettes. I have never seen a gang or even a gang member, in my ENTIRE life in Rocklin. Those types of people just don’t come out here because they stick out like a sore thumb and get stopped by the police the minute they cross the Placer county border. The closest thing to a “GANG” I’ve ever seen in Rocklin is a bunch of Russian guys hanging out on their cars by Taco Bell.
There is absolutely NO gang violence in Rocklin. Rocklin’s demographics are about 97% White, 1% Asian, and less than 1% Mexican and Black. You’ve got to be kidding me if you’re really complaining about “gang fights”. There is NOTHING of that sort out here. You OBVIOUSLY don’t know what it’s like to actually LIVE on gang territory like in South Sac or Del Paso Heights because ROCKLIN DOES NOT HAVE ANY GANG PROBLEMS! I honestly feel bad for scared people like you because you would not even survive if you had to live in a lower-class area. Rocklin is one of the safest towns you can FIND next to Granite Bay. Hazing and gang fights, yeah right… The only GANG Rocklin’s ever had was when the “flash mob” went to the Galleria and practically broke the floor. Move to Florin Road and see how you like THEIR gang problems. Cause they’re actually real.

  • Okay, we get it

Geez Realist, tell us how you really feel! You made the same point about 100 times in your post.

  • Jim

    i know that kid…crazy

  • Anonymous

There are drunk drivers everywhere. DUH.

  • Fred

    Hey @realist,
You make such a BIG deal about “No gangs in Rocklin,” it makes me wonder which Gand you are actually in.

  • Fed Up w/ Hypocrisy

If CA would actual do something to prevent Drunk Driving versus just trying to profit from the arrests and legal fees these incidents wouldn’t be so prevalent. Shutting off public transportation at 11pm in any metropolitan city is a boon for DUIs. Add to that the exorbitant rates for cabs in Sacramento you have a recipe for an environment which actually fosters DUIs rather than prevents them. Just look at the police presence downtown, are they sitting there waiting to prevent crimes of person or possession, nope, just the $5-$10K costs associated w/ DUIs to help fill budget gaps and allow police officers to keep their jobs. Look at the new laws in place; what good is an ignition locking device for a car that the driver is not licensed to drive? Just more $$ for the system and no plan for prevention besides those stupid commercials w/ cars full of booze.

  • whatevs

I agree about the whole public transportation shutting down too early, but I also have to say that it’s not really relevant with this case. This accident occured in the middle of the day, because Ilia (who I know) for some reason decided to be an idiot and get high or drunk or whatever he was in the middle of the day as opposed to at night, which means a new law affecting hours of public transportation wouldn’t have mattered. Not that this wouldn’t have happened at night, but this particular case was just weird in general. He was just being stupid…. like all drunk or high drivers…

  • YUNG DRO

    FREE ILIA FUCC THE POLICE

  • OneManShow

Completely Agree these parents in this town dont know anything thats going on. We live in Rocklin oe of the safest towns in California. Gangs? hahahahah what a joke

  • Tarah

I am so glad to hear that the officer is healing well, and that his family is doing so well. Although these facts are incorrect. It wasn’t a hit & run, or a DUI! He was tested multiple times and no drugs or alcohol were found. The vehicle lost control around the corner. Get the facts correct before publishing slanderous articles, this isn’t a high school newspaper! PUBLISH THE TRUTH.
