Suspect Arrested In Tuolumne Co. Cemetery Vandalism
SONORA (CBS13) - An historic Tuolumne County cemetery, already hit hard by vandals, was targeted again, but this time a suspect is under arrest.
On Friday, a Sonora resident near the Odd Fellows Cemetery called police to say someone was inside the cemetery damaging headstones. The caller gave a detailed description of the suspect.
When police arrived, the suspect was already gone. But while they were investigating, another resident called saying they saw a man running from the cemetery. The person matched the description of the suspect, but was wearing different clothes.
Police caught up with 21-year-old Anthony Briggs-Razzari. After searching his backpack, police found the original clothing described by the first caller.
Briggs-Razzari was identified by both witnesses as the suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Tuolumne County Jail on felony vandalism to a cemetery.
Maintenance at the cemetery is difficult since the Odd Fellows group is made up of just a small group of elderly members.
Local historians say the Odd Fellows are a fraternal organization known for helping others and this type of vandalism is a shame.
