SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A freshman basketball coach has been arrested for molestation and other sex charges, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

El Camino High School coach Melvin Flemings, 22, allegedly assaulted one of his freshman players after befriending him over the summer. Flemings is also facing charges of possessing child pornography.

San Juan School District spokesperson Trent Allen said district officials fired Fleming two weeks ago, before the Sheriff’s Department launched their investigation.

The accusations come just five years after a similar situation at the same school: Junior varsity basketball coach Kevin Coe was found guilty of molesting a minor after begging one of his players to have sex with him.

District officials perform background checks on all employees, but Flemings did not have a criminal record.

Sheriff’s investigators said they are looking into the possibility that other victims have not come forward yet.

Flemings is being held on $50,000 bail. His next court date is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

This doesn’t sound like a predator situation, it sounds like he may have had a relationship w/ an underage student, which is bad. Regardless of how you think she looks and act older than her age, its still rape. Just a bunch of bad decisions by this young man.

At the same time, Ben Rothelisberger is accused of raping two women and he still placed 80 % of his season and played horribly in his super bowl lost. Sounds like Karma.

  2. Linda says:

Maybe he is innocent? Anyone can make an accusation and then you are done.

  3. Patty says:

I can’t believe these people still think they can get away with abusing children. Children are not stupid and are perfectly aware of what abuse is. We, as parents, must keep encouraging our children to report these people as soon as they are approached by them as was done in this case.

  4. What's the alternative? says:

Get help? Think about it… if they commit the crime, they go to prison. If they “get help”, at a minimum, they probably lose their job. Regardless of what a therapist does, that person probably isn’t going to ever work in that field again. It’s messed up… they need to stop preying on children. Yet, it’s not as though option B is appealing… they’ll be marked.

Let the evidence determin the mans guilt or innocence. Regardless, his face is now plastered all over the place. Everyone will have a biased thought toward him for life. Two main things are fighting against people with a weakness to their desires. First instincts/ biology. Just under 100 years ago, it was normal for girls of 14 to be married and having children them selves. I’m not saying its right, just that it was so. And second, because of marketing and the internet and the desire to be cool and in the trend, girls and boys are trying even harder to look and act like adults and are dressing with a very sexual attitude and aproach. We must be more like parents and a little less like our kids best friend. Have them dress a little less like porn stars and more like the children they are. When they turn Eighteen, then they can dress however they like.

And it’s people like you that continually fight to get them let back out on the streets so they can do it all over again. I am so tired of the, well it used to be ok BS. We are no longer living in those times, those rules do not apply.

  6. Parent says:

I’m just glad he got caught before my child goes to that school next fall.Who can we trust with our children. It’s really scarey.

    1. Lauren says:

I’m pretty sure we live in an INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY society. However, you do not have any problem jumping to the conclusion that he is ABSOLUTELY guilty. It’s really sad that you have no idea who he is and don’t have any problem saying these things. You shouldn’t trust your kids with anyone in this world but yourself apparently, because a good innocent man is going down just because some kid didn’t make his basketball team. Sad day..

      1. OMG says:

Stupid comment Lauren. He is not innocent if he was arrested. And had nothing to do with not making a basketball team. You must be 10 years old…

  7. Rob says:

Hello its a man begging a young boy for sex! Its horrible and he deserves to rot in jail or die. Anyone who acts on their desires should not be roaming free among our children. To the person who said it doesn’t sound like a preditor, hell yeah he’s a preditor. He works with kids for a reason so he can prey on them. U ppl make me sick!

    1. Lauren says:

Who said he was begging for sex?? hmm..

    2. Christy says:

I feel sorry for the people that judge others without knowing the truth. People can accuse others and it isn’t always necessarily true.Being accused of something doesn’t necessarily make you guilty. I hope this never happens to you or someone you love. I just wonder if you would judge the same if you were in the situation. If this was someone you knew or loved, would you be so quick to judge?

  8. k says:

So all of you that are saying wait for more evidence are just going to ignore the fact that he had child porn at home?

    1. Lauren says:

I say wait for evidence, because you don’t have any idea what they are using as evidence for this “supposed child porn”. Don’t make any conclusions until you know exactly what you are talking about.

  9. NewlyMediaAbhorrent says:

Every single one of these charges is bogus, yet he’s still going to have to suffer the inevitable suspicions anyway. I personally am connected to this man’s family and am disgusted at how these news stations/ websites have jumped to conclusions rather than investigating further and discovering more evidence. I hope all these same “reports” update this story with final judgment, even though all the damages done to this man’s character are irreversible. For more information on this farce (for the people who still believe in finding their own facts on debatable, and in this case absurd, accusations/topics) please see the comment of Michelle on this report:

    1. Lauren says:

I agree. I went to high school with him and know that this is ridiculous. I will pray that everything turns out ok for him.

      1. OMG says:

LOL – Just because you went to high school with him doesn’t mean he’s innocent. The UniBomber went to high school too. God help us all if you ever get chosen for a jury!

      2. Cy-world says:

What’s the name of the little boy that claimed to have gotten molested.

  10. NewlyMediaAbhorrent says:

Evidence of the damages to his character are the majority of comments already posted here…

  11. jjalways says:

I went to middle school and highschool with melvin and this is hard to believe. All these people are jumjping to conclusions and he hasnt even been sentenced. I have also heard that the boy is saying there was no “attack” and he was never on the team. Wait until the facts come out before making him guilty. He has a lot of students writing letters about his character to help him out if he was a pedophile no one would be supporting him.

    1. OMG says:

There are other ways to “attack” someone beside physical, my dear. Ever hear of coersion, manipulation, scare tactics? Oh yes indeed. And not everyone who knew Melvin thought he was an outstanding character, nor is everyone supporting him. Get your facts straight.

      1. Whatever says:

OH YEAH RIGHT OMG. You have NO clue. Love to see how many people who know him and have ever been coached by him say he doesn’t have outstanding character. ONE family isn’t supporting him because they have other motives and are obviously out to get what they can at the expense of an innocent man. You must be personally connected and you probably have NEVER even seen or talked to Melvin Flemings. I hope you go away because you are super annoying!

      2. OMG says:

To Whatever, You obviously don’t know what you are talking about. We’ll leave it at that.

  12. Zak says:

Melvin would never do a type of thing like that… i known Melvin every since we were little kids, I basically known him my whole life, he would never do anything like that or do anything to jeopardize what he loves doing, which is playing basketball and coaching. He is a good guy, always got good grades, always makes people feel better, laugh and just a big inspiration…

  13. k. james says:

that is the most lame excuse I have ever heard for suppiorting a friend.
Do you think a child molester lets others in on his or her dirty little secrets?
