Storm To Bring 2 Feet Of Snow To Sierra

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- A Sierra storm packing powerful winds is expected to bring up to 2 feet of snow to Lake Tahoe over the next two days.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for most of the Sierra and western Nevada effective Tuesday and Wednesday. A few inches of snow is forecast to reach the valley floors in Reno Wednesday, with up to 3 feet in the mountains above 7,000 feet and 4 feet atop the Sierra ridge with wind gusts in excess of 100 mph.

A high wind warning was issued Monday for U.S. Highway 395 south of Reno. Chains and snow tires are required on most mountain roads, including about a 10-mile stretch of Interstate 80 west of Truckee, Calif., between Donner Pass and the Kingvale exit.
