Marysville To Test New Redlight Cameras That Could Adjust Signals To Avoid Crashes

MARYSVILLE (CBS13) - The city of Marysville is trying out a new type of red light camera, aimed at making the roadways safer.

The cameras have technology that anticipates when a driver is about to run a red light.

It realizes there may be a collision about to happen and it alters the timing of the light, so the cross traffic does not receive a green light.

Despite the good intentions, not everyone is on board with the new cameras.

"I would prefer that we not be the first to try something new," said Marysville City Councilman Dale Whitmore, "I do believe that it could potentially save lives I would just like to see it vested so that there isn't the possibility that it may not work correctly."

The city has not decided which intersections will get the new cameras, but they will likely go in three locations where regular cameras already exist.
