Gas Leak Capped In Fairfield

FAIRFIELD (CBS13) -  A Fairfield neighborhood was evacuated due to a leak in a gas line, according to Fairfield Police.

About ten homes in the area of Tennessee and Taft streets were evacuated, according to Fairfield Police Lt. Darrin Moody, due to a leak in a 2 inch gas line.

PG&E says they have capped the leak, and it safe for residents to return to their homes.

Apparently, a private contractor was working on a sewer line with a hand tool and struck a two inch steel natural gas main line, according to authorities.

No one was injured as a result of the damaged pipe or the gas exposure.
