Man Calls 911, Then Allegedly Kills Fiancée, Self

STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) -- Stockton Police are investigating a man who allegedly shot and killed his fiancée and himself after calling 911 as an apparent murder suicide.

Officer Pete Smith, a department spokesman, said Friday that 45-year-old Joseph Giacovoni called 911 and told dispatchers Thursday morning he was going to shoot his fiancée, 35-year-old Maya Paratore.Smith said when officers arrived to the couple's home they found the front door open and the couple shot inside. They were later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Smith said it's unclear whether Giacovoni had shot Paratore when he called 911.

Smith said the couple, who were engaged and living together as a blended family with four children, had fought before the shooting as a motive is still unknown.

None of the children were at home during the shooting.
