Thousands Still Without Power Due To Recent Storms

CALAVERAS COUNTY (CBS13) --   The storms are long gone, but there are thousands of homes still in the dark in Calaveras and Tuolumne County.

Shaken and shivering, 75-year-old Shirley Ann Hogle showed CBS13 the damage last week's storm left behind, which included an entire guest bedroom destroyed by a fallen tree.

"I didn't even hear the thing come down.  If my son would have been in bed, he'd be a goner," says Hogle.

While crews work to repair the huge hole in her roof, Hogle struggles to stay warm for the fourth day without electricity.

"I was so cold the first night," said Hogle.

Contractors prepared severed wires for PG&E workers on their way to restore power.

"It's ridiculous; four days people aren't prepared for it, people think live up here without a back up source, it gets serious," says one contractor.

Due to the recent series of storms, the ground is saturated and trees are toppling, which is causing power problems all over.

But, crews are working to clean up the mess, and as for the power, PG&E hopes to restore service tonight or tomorrow morning to the 2,000 residents still in the dark.
