Boy On Bike Struck And Killed By SUV

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A young boy was fatally injured Tuesday evening after riding his bike in front of a driver who was unable to stop in time.

The California Highway Patrol said a man drove his blue Dodge SUV into Cava Court from Carro Drive when a four-year-old boy rode out of a driveway and into the street at about 6:00 p.m.

A parked car prevented the driver from seeing the danger until it was too late, and the boy was struck by the large vehicle.

The victim was rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The driver admitted he had recently consumed alcohol but was able to pass a field sobriety test.

The California Highway Patrol has not arrested the driver, and is still investigating witnesses' claims the man was speeding.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
