CHP Rescues Puppies Darting In Traffic On Sacramento Freeway

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Two runaway puppies are lucky to be alive after a thrilling but dangerous adventure on a busy Sacramento freeway catching drivers by surprise during the morning commute and forcing CHP to attempt a risky rescue.

Motorists first noticed the petrified puppies darting in and out of traffic near the El Camino onramp to the Capital City Freeway around 8 a.m. and called CHP.

CHP officers tried to move in and capture the two puppies without spooking them but the rescue did not go as planned.

The puppies took off toward a U-Haul business and ran back down the onramp onto the freeway.  Traffic came to a stop as the puppies darted onto the roadway and then made their way along the shoulder ending up at the Arden Way exit.

When the pair took shelter between a power box and a fence, CHP officers moved in scooping up the tired and scared dogs.

Animal control officers say it appears the dogs were groomed but did not have tags.  They are being taken to the SPCA.
