Thieves Ripping Gold Jewelry Right Off Their Victims

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – With the price of gold skyrocketing, Sacramento police are warning residents about thieves who are stealing gold by snatching jewelry right off their victims.

Police say in one case on March 2 in the 6600 block of Stockton Boulevard, a woman pushing a grocery cart stopped to avoid hitting a man who had stopped right in front of her.  The man reached over and ripped the woman's gold necklace from her neck.

The suspect ran and jumped into a red four-door compact car.  He's described as an Asian male in his early 20's.  He was about 5'7" tall weighing 165 pounds wearing black clothing.

The day before, a woman was walking on the 6100 block of Lemon Hill Avenue when a man ran up from behind her and snatched her gold necklace.  The suspect kept running east on Lemon Hill.

He's described a white male about 27-to-28 years old wearing black clothing including a black beanie cap.

The Sacramento Police Department is asking anyone with information about these crimes to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information.  Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
