STOCKTON (CBS13) – Stockton fire fighters battling an apartment fire were able to rescue two young children who had been left home alone in the apartment. Police later arrested their parents on felony child endangerment charges.

Stockton fire fighters were first called to a car fire at Prado Way and Los Molinas Lane just after 5:30 a.m. By the time crews arrived, the flames had spread to a car port and the attached triplex.

While fire fighters were inside the apartment dousing flames, they found a two-year-old and a five-year-old child asleep in a bedroom.

Stockton Police later arrested the parents.

Oh sure that is exactly what I would do, leave my 3 year old and baby alone so I can get help. Everybody knows how heavy a baby and 3 year old are that you can’t grab them when you run out of a building that is burning.

I’m just happy that the Stockton firefighters were available and able to get there at all. With all the cut-backs the City of Stockton is facing, the Board of Supervisors/City Government are putting their citizens in harms way. Cutting back on wages and hiring for firefighters and police is a huge mistake. I’m glad the children were rescued and saved from a horrible death. Kudos to all of the Stockton firefighters.

If I heard correctly in last evenings news; Firefighters may loose one person per truck and the shortfall that reduction was supposed to cure was eighteen million??? They aaaarrrreeeee expensive to employ!!!

No, I’m not a plant, are you fertilizer? I’m just a concerned citizen Mike, that’s all…I merely brought up the fact that we need to keep firefighters and police employed (avoid layoffs) so that they can effectively report to fires, endangered children/citizens, etc. There are certain ratios that have to be met in order to keep people safe….1 police officer to protect 2,000 citizens does not work…same for firefighters…and as far as the mother being responsible, yes, that is wrong and it should be handled immediately. Unfortunately this type of behavior goes on all the time; children left home alone while the parents are out partying.
You may think public employees are expensive to employ but they go through rigorous training in order to be employed.
If you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.

So nice to hear some good news about the little ones. Hopefully some good relatives take them in and give them love. If they are going to be put in “the system,” that would damage them. The CPS takes kids away, puts them in a strangers home, gives the kids a lollypop (something medicine to calm them down) and this makes the kids like zombies. CPS is the 2nd worst thing that could happen to these kids.
Praise God that these little ones were saved from the fire.

unfortunately the FAMILY that has them is part of the problem,,,, these so called parents are pieces of S##T, they lived with me for awhile, i had to kick them out because they would leave the little boy asleep and go across the street to smoke weed . i tried cps but the parents have full rights and decision who gets there kids even if they go to jail….the parents were out partying again….

Live in Sacramento County. A woman and her 2 kids live near me. She leaves her kids alone all the time. The baby is about 2 years. The other is 6-8 years. Called Sac. Cty Sheriff and was told it is not illegal and if the mom thinks her older child is old enough to be responsible, nothing can be done. Called CPS and they said to call Sheriff. So what the hell do you do, wait for the place to burn down or some other horrible thing to happen before anyone gets involved.

Even the higher earners are having to take less for their holdings so Maybe it is time to look alternatives; Sutter Creek has grown in the past 10 years with a sizeable population that overflows to Jackson. They have a very effecient Volunteer Fire Dept. that handles that area well, is not 70 to 80% of the towns budget. If Stockton continues to allow the bully’s in City Hall to keep using scare tactics of imminent layoffs of Police while at the same time being fully aware of the crime base. Then maybe “all” the thugs are not out in the street.

Mike ur an idiot! We all choose our careers so don’t be upset that u may have chosen poorly! Do research before u comment. There are regulations that specify when ff’s can go into a burning building. There has to be a “ric” rapid intervention crew consisting of two dedicated ff’s ready for deployment prior to entering a burning building. Reducing staffing has a direct impact on how fast ff’s can be ready to go into a burning structure to save your life. Fire grows at a rapid pace and literally every minute counts. Voluntee departmentstake extra Lon to Arrive cause they have to drive their personal vehicles to the station before responding. They usual only provide defensive fire operations. Firefighters also provide EMS care which we all know that time during a heart attack or asthma attack etc… Is critical!! Cut fire houses and staffing will result in unnecessary loss of life in some way or another! It is not expensive if you consider the alternative!! Just seems that way now because all the private sector folks aren’t doing so well . It’s not the public employees fault ! Leave them alone and focus on the housing crash, fuel prices and the political mismanagement of our money!!
