SoCal Teams Reportedly Pushing Back Against Kings Move

ANAHEIM, Calif. (CBS13) -- Some of the professional sports franchises in the Los Angeles and Orange County area are reportedly concerned about a hit to their bottom line if another team, the Sacramento Kings, moves into their turf.

Arte Moreno, the owner of the Anaheim Angels, told the Los Angeles Times, "You're competing with them for media time and advertising dollars. How much discretionary income and advertising dollars do people have? If you add another team, that doesn't mean there's going to be more advertising dollars."

Moreno is not the only team owner to express doubts.

The Lakers and Clippers are also reportedly fighting the Maloofs' move down south over concerns the NBA scene could be spread too thin. A report by ESPN shows the Lakers' new $1 billion TV deal will decrease by 10 percent if the Kings move to Anaheim.

The Anaheim city council voted Tuesday to approve $75 million in bonds as part of their efforts to encourage the Kings' move south. The deal includes $25 million in Honda Center upgrades and $50 million in transition costs.

Sacramento city officials have asked Anaheim to stop negotiating with the Maloofs until the team's owners agree in writing to repay the $77 million the franchise still owes the city.
