Lodi Lifts 26-Year Ban On Fireworks
LODI, Calif. (AP) -- The Northern California city of Lodi has lifted its 26-year ban on fireworks.
The city council voted this week to allow nonprofits to set up six booths to sell state-approved fireworks for the Fourth of July. Sales will be permitted from June 29 through the holiday.
State-approved fireworks include spinners and cone fountains, but not anything that shoots in the air such as bottle rockets or Roman candles.
Dozens of nonprofits have expressed interest in selling fireworks as a fundraising opportunity, so the city plans to select the six through a lottery system.
The city plans to charge up to $20,000 for fireworks-related enforcement.
City Manager Rad Bartlam says he's received no negative feedback on the ordinance.
