Former College Official Admits To Embezzlement

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- A former official at the University of California, Davis will most likely avoid prison time after pleading no contest to embezzlement.

Jennifer Beeman, the former director of the campus violence prevention program at the university, pleaded no contest on Wednesday to two felony counts of embezzlement and keeping false accounts.

Part of a plea deal with prosecutors, Beeman will likely be placed on probation when she's sentenced on June 2.

Prosecutors say Beeman embezzled about $10,500 by asking for travel reimbursements and mileage to attend meetings that never took place. She was arrested after her June 2009 retirement.

As part of the plea deal, Beeman will have to pay back the $10,500.
