Good Samaritan Helps Family Of Six Escape Burning Home

SOUTH SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A family of six escaped a burning home after a Good Samaritan saw flames and stopped to alert them.

Antonio Wilson was driving by the home on 42nd Street in Oak Park early Thursday morning when he saw flames.

"I seen a fire and thought it was a BBQ but I'm like it's one o'clock in the morning," said Wilson. "I seen the front porch catching fire so I jumped out and ran to the side and started saying 'Wake up, wake up everybody, it's a fire',".

Luckily, homeowner Brad Byrd heard the screaming.

"I woke up to horn honking and someone screaming.  I opened up my eyes and saw red," said Byrd.

Byrd stumbled out of bed and saw the flames.  He woke up his wife, Melody, their 4-year-old daughter Ayden and three other family members inside the home.

All got out of the home without injury.

"They kept on thanking but I said thank god I was here.  Don't thank me because I'm just another person out here living my life and I didn't want to see nobody get hurt."

Firefighters were at the home in two minutes, but the home was still heavily damaged.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
