Sacramento Police Use Grant To Extend Surveillance Network

Sacramento Police Department is using new surveillance cameras to fight crime in the area.

The city was awarded $600,000 by the California Emergency Management Agency to purchase the equipment. The request was made possible through Mayor Johnson's efforts to make the community safer, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Following are the items the department was able to purchase:

- Three TV surveillance trailers with license plate recognition cameras. These will be used at major events or at the scene of an ongoing crime trend or series.
- Thirteen fixed cameras located at Del Paso Boulevard and Forrest Street, Mack Road and Center Parkway, 7th and K Street, 8th and K Street, Alkali Flat light rail station, Del Paso Boulevard and Arden Way light rail station.
- A video storage system allowing police to store up to 30 days of surveillance footage.
- Equipment and labor required for police to integrate Regional Transit surveillance cameras into their existing networks.
