SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A woman was struck and killed while walking in South Sacramento late Saturday evening, authorities said.

The woman, described as being in her mid-40s, was walking along southbound Center Parkway near Arroyo Vista Drive at about 9:00 p.m. when she was fatally wounded by a vehicle.

It is not yet clear if she was walking in the roadway or on a sidewalk.

Authorities said the driver stopped at the scene and called for help. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Nowadays you have got to be wearing a neon outfit at night just to cross the street. Some crazy people (drivers and pedestrians) out there.

I live about a half mile from where the accident occurred. It’s a terrible area when it comes to both drivers and pedestrians. There is a crosswalk there, but people rarely use it and when someone actually does try to use it, very few drivers give them the right of way. Regardless of how this accident happened, my thoughts go out to the woman, her family and the driver of the car. It’s awful for everyone involved.

This was just Sad

My Prayers are with the family of this woman, and the driver… Everyone will be hurting for quite awhile.

It is so important that if you are walking or riding a bike after dark, that you have reflective clothing on. Some streets are not lit up very well… I see a lot of people wearing dark clothing at night and it is very hard to see them sometimes. And not to sound racist, but it is especially hard to see a person, dressed in dark clothing, and being of dark skin… Thats just asking for it….. And I see it all the time….

Please people, use your brain a little…. You might live longer.

You must be one of the many idiots I see that driving around that are too busy on the phone while driving to turn on your headlights and pay attention!

Grow Up

Wow, people, come on now.

Jerry, you were especially, out of line. And totally uncalled for.

Talk about having some respect.? And, there is no need for name calling either. No matter how true it may be.

Jerry, you seem to be wanting to put the blame on someone. Should I get you a mirror??? Good thing you don’t live in a glass house. Oh, wait, you don’t live in a glass house do you??? Oh, I see. You live way up on that pedistal over there. Oh, the glow, the bright light. It hurts my eyes. I must kneel before the great one.

PLEASE………….. Get a Life.

You dont know the situation and I think ” use your brain…” is a little harsh. This was someone’s mother and grandmother, have a little more respecti for the loss of a life.

Jillian

Hi Tee,
My information is very limited and comes from your sister’s eldest daughter who I am close friends with. Also we may be talking about someone different, because commenter “Red” towards the bottom of the pages seems to be refering to someone different than who I know. Have you been in contact with the family because they would know much more than I do.
I am very sorry for your family’s loss. She was a lovely woman and will be missed.

St. Peter

Ahhh yes,, South Sacramento.. The new thunderdome. Hey Jillian,, “USE YOUR BRAIN!!!!!” “This was just sad” is more than correct than you might think.

May the victem rest in peace, and the driver find some way to live beyond this tragity.

Jillian needs to use her Brain a little bit herself...

Jillian, sorry, but you are way off base here. You need to have a little more respect yourself.

Seems that you are the one not using their brain.

“This was just Sad”, was stating facts here. That person was not only concerned for the the person who got hit, and the driver, but, was also, concerned about others who go out at night, dressed in dark clothing. It was a warning to please wear something reflective, so that this does not happen to you.

So, please, before you make another comment,

USE YOUR BRAIN.

Have a nice day, Jillian.

Sorry, Jillian, I agree with the others on this one.

I will pray for this family and the poor person who hit this woman. Must be horrible. I can not even imagine.

I will also, pray for Jillian. Honey, you need to chill out, and read these comments a little bit more, before you open your mouth and put your size 12 foot in your mouth.

This was a sad accident that probably could have been prevented. My heart really goes out to this family.

R.I.P.

(((Sad, too)))

I lost my Uncle, last year because it was too dark out and he was wearing a black jacket and pants. We also, are African American. And I have to agree. If my uncle had been wearing lighter colors, he might still be alive today. Since that day, I have never worn dark clothes when I go out at night.

That was some good advise. “Use your brain a little bit”

I know what the family is going through. It is rough, and nothing anyone say’s will make it any better. One day you will smile, and you might even feel a little bit guilty about enjoying something. But, smile anyway. And Laugh if you can. It does the soul good. Go to church, and let it all out. Talk to your Pastor, or Priest, or Rabi, or whoever, and get it all out. Don’t keep anything back. They will truly help you. Even if you don’t belong to a church, find one in your neighborhood and pay them a visit, they will be glad to talk with you. Trust me, it helps. I know from experience. And I am not a very religious person. I still have meltdowns every once in awhile.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I nearly ran over a black guy riding his bike when I made a left turn at the light, but he kept coming. His bike had no reflectors or light, he wore dark clothing, and his face was black as night. I did not see him at all until 2 feet from him.

Wow I don’t know how to respond to all the comments made in response to my comment but you all seem like angry people.

I repeat you don’t know the situation…
And I personally think the comment “use your brain” is a little harsh considering you don’t know the situation. I personally know the deceased and I think I can express my thoughts without being personally attacked. Also do not call me Honey and I don’t need nor want your prayers.

Dark Clothing

With all stupid comments being made, as being one who was there during the event, this lady was wearing DARK clothing, her shoes, and backpack were no where near her body once she got hit! She had scratches on her face, and had to of died on impact as CPR didn’t help and there was no pulse! I think she was a transient. It was a sad thing.

Jillian

She was not a transient. That is what is wrong with making assumptions. She was a loving mother and grandmother taking a stroll through her neighborhood. I was not there, so cannot speak of the details of what happen, but I knew her personal, thus why I feel the need to respond to that post.
