Stockton Man Fights Back Against Thieves Using Facebook

STOCKTON (CBS13) — A local man is now using social media to try and catch the crooks he says are targeting his neighborhood.

After two minutes of knocking, a burglar made a bold move in broad daylight and kicked down Susan Mitchell’s front door, allowing him and two other thieves into her home.

The trio spent the next two minutes unplugging and grabbing everything in sight.

But, what the burglars didn’t realize was the home was covered with cameras that captured the crime from every angle, even showing the getaway car.

A concerned neighbor posted the video on his Facebook page, hoping to help neighbors protect themselves, and to send a message to the burglars he believes targeted at least three homes in the neighborhood this week alone.

“The first thing I noticed was my TV was gone and my laptop was missing,” says Susan.

Susan gave the break-in video to her neighbor to post online in hopes that the crystal clear pictures help stop thieves before they strike again.

“We’re all watching, and there are people here during the daytime and the evening, and nobody better mess with our houses,” said Susan.

Neighborhood watch was formed, who call the police when they see someone suspicious. Also, neighbors have added security doors to their homes.

The pitbull dog kind of scares me, but I hear they are very affectionate. They just seem so powerful. Im not sure I could control one if my husband wasnt here. Can they be taught to follow instructions?

  • Duval3

    Those are dangerous dogs!

  • The_Truth

A link to the FB site would be nice CBS.

  • LucyDSky

I have 4 American Bull Terriers. They are not dangerous to anyone who is normal, nonviolent, and non psycopath. Go figure!

  • mike

I recommennd you get a security door.

  • 209hughes

Hey a front door was kicked in (daytime) my neighborhood yesterday in Colonial Hts area of Stockton. Laptop and xbox among stolen. If same area can you post it on YouTube for more to view.

  • sss

Seriously? They are normal dam dogs! I hate when people misunderstand them because of untrue media hype. I have 2.

  • Tom

    wtb video link

  • sss

    Uneducated person above ^^^

  • LucyDSky

Im in Stockton. Let them kick My door down and see my sweet Pitbuls shred them. See Im not worried in the least!

  • prodgod

@209hughes: same neighborhood and I’m sure the same guys. I’m assuming the video to this story will eventually be uploaded here.

  • Shelly Anne

You misunderstood. I really want one, from what I have heard on here alone.

  • Joe

Pitbulls are great dogs with a bad wrap….smaller breeds tend to be much more violent to make up for lack of size

  • ShireneCa

Thats like 4 blocks from here. Im gettin a Gun. Them Pitbuldogs are soundin nice about now too

  • prodgod

Until I see the Video feed, I have a chair under the front door, If You know what I mean. My wife is watching a monitor with 6 cameras, all roof mount.

  • PitBullsAreVicious

What’s with all the pit bull breeders spewing their propaganda here? Pit bulls are vicious and unpredictable. They are the vicious dog of choice for sociopaths and criminals.

  • Wyliecoyote

A piece of meat with poison and they a done.
If they want in, they will case a house and make sure there’s no mean dog, this might avoid the robbers for a day or two, but if they want something bad…..many have no issues taking the dog out. Two friends had their Rots killed this way

  • Wyliecoyote

There are no bad dogs, only bad dog owners

  • Horcrux

They just have a bad rep, they are normal dogs. Any dog can be turnt out

  • Duval3

I agree with PitBullsAreVicious. Here in SanFrancisco we dont allow pitbulls to run around, and we sure dont allow any Gay bashers. We bash them back double trouble!
Those are bad dogs and anyone that disagrees with me is a freak!

  • Horcrux

Dam that’s sad if that’s all necessary

  • Horcrux

Lol I’m not even an owner of any dogs and I have the education to know that it’s just bad owners more than the dog

  • Brett Donley

Can they be taught to follow instructions? Uh yeah! Of course! They are just like any other breed of dog, they have some dog aggressive traits but none towards humans, unless trained or mistreated. They can learn commands just like any other dog.

  • ChicagoRay

Duval 3. You obviously don’t know the breed. For someone who stands up against gaybashers (whom are ignorant) you’re obviously ignorant about Pitbulls. That’s OK. maybe one day you’ll learn. Just as we can hope gaybashers learn as well. Don’t bash pitbulls just becuase you’re afraid of them. It’s not the Dog, it’s always the owner. FYI: Just because unruly people chose pitbulls as thier dog of choice, that doesn’t mean educated well informed don’t. Please stop the predjudice. TRUE.

  • ZepMan

Yes this was in the Colonial Heights area and during the day time. Area is being cased by other people. Report anything suspicious to the Sheriffs office. Will do my best to post it on You Tube.

  • still kicking

Where is Charles Bronson when this country most needs him? Seriously, we all know that these low lifes have prior records and will never do anything of value. I have seen the statistic that 80% of all crime is committed by the same 20% of criminals. If we simply killed all the criminals like these we wouldn’t have to worry about securing our homes.

  • Jim VSA

Gun training in self defense and gun ownership is also a good idea!

  • Jeff Wilson

The sad part of this whole story is that the public has to do the job of law enforcement!!!! With the images the cops should have these thugs in cuffs already. Then they just need 3 bullets and be done with it! America it seriously is time to get tough on crimes against others!!!!

  • ZepMan

    Amen Brother…

  • Kevin H.

Too bad it is taboo to make it look like you are not home, sit in your house quietly with a 3 shot 20 gauge, and make them, and all who know them, regret them breaking in.

  • bob

They are fine dogs, until they attack your neighbor… Bad owner this, bad owner that, misunderstood breed, never hurts my toddler.. the bottom line is that I keep reading at least a story a month where somebody is killed or gets her face eaten off by this misunderstood breed…

  • bob

Emotional — that’s the last thing you want in a dog with a 300lb bite. what if it’s having a bad day? When mauls the neighbors’ kid to release some of these emotions, do you get it a therapist?

  • JB

there are more poodle attacks per year than pitbull attacks.

any dog can be made into a fighting mean uncontrollable dog, just like any human. give it love and respect and it will give you the same, just like a human.

  • JB

THANK YOU. its like saying, “thats a dangerous rifle”… the rifle by itself does nothing. a person shooting it, kills people. same goes with dogs and their owners.

  • TruthBeKnown

    @ ChicagoRay:

Ironic that you mention prejudice (not predjudice as you misspelled it – I guess you’re ignorant about prejudice and spelling) because for racist groups, like the Keystone Skin Heads, the vicious dog of choice is the Pit Bull. They use the Pit Bull to intimidate gay people, Jewish people, and other minorities.

The Keystone Skinheads also use the PIT BULL as their mascot and SYMBOL OF HATE.

  • Mr A

The neighbor has 3 pit bull dogs-No problems as yet.they are good barkers, let the everyone know of a disturbance. They have run out the door on occasion, across the street after kids getting off the school bus, and into my driveway when bathing my own old dog. like any breed, it needs to know who is the boss, it’s not mean , dogs have a hierarchy mentality, its actually cruel to dogs to not train them.. Train your dog! It’s only a matter of time before you read about my neighbors dog’s

  • Larry

    Three shot 20 gauge?
12 gauge loaded with double 00, pull the plug out, five in the mag, one up.

  • Mr A

No, Sir, you have every right to do just that.

  • Quit watchingtv

You don’t know what your talking about. My Pitt bull will devour anyone that approaches my babies,or my house.

  • gary

I have a Yorkie who will bite if you do anything she doesn’t like,

Okay instead of everyone fighting about whether pit bulls are good or bad, can we get back to why this thread started. I live across the street from where this happened and I am very nervous for myself, family and home if we don’t catch these guys. I have two German Shepherd dogs and maybe that’s why I haven’t been hit yet, but I am begging you please to share this article and video on your own facebook. The more computers we reach the better chance of getting them off of our streets. Yes it was on the news, but a lot people don’t watch it. I would say that more people log into their facebook on a daily basis than sit down to watch the nightly new. Don’t get me wrong. I think approaching it at all angles is the way to go, but this is our County and we can help by spreading this video as much as we can.

  • Jesse Snow

I don’t answer my door a lot due to salesman I see on my camera’s, so if you kick it in you may very well be met by Mr Glock spitting a 140gr welcome.

  • ZepMan

I totally agree!!! That is why I posted it on Face Book and it got the medias attention… The Sheriff office has the original recording which is a lot clearer with more angles!!! Report anything suspicious in the neighborhood because law enforcement is really motivated on catching these thieves!!!

  • 209mom

Thank you for doing that and I will report anything I see!

  • Timothy & Rosalind

Thieves reading these articles about computer surveillance may decide to cut off the electricity first. Our security system notifies 911 and has battery back-up when the electricity turns off. We hope we never need it, but the price is worth it if we ever do.

  • RMP

My questions are: Do the police have this video and are they invcestigating? I know that when i was working in Stockton, my employer was hit 3 times in a very well lit, high public profile area. When called they would not even come out. It was pretty much “sorry that this happened to you.” I am so thankful that I do not live in Stockton!!!!

  • ZepMan

Come on people we are starting to live in prisons ourselves. No home protection is foolproof. What we need to do is get outside of our homes more often instead of sitting inside of our homes. Know and care about your neighborhood. Band together with you neighbors and watch out for each other. Power is in numbers. I can tell you that the Sheriff office is really motivated on this crime spree.

  • Mr S.

This is a common problem in all neighborhoods from low income to upper class neighborhoods. I do find one simularity though……nine times out of ten the suspects always look alike. Why is that? Lets do something about it and take back our neighborhoods. Arm yourselves when a stranger knocks on your door and get prepared to take justice into your own hands if they break in. We have allowed the justice system to punish, if that is what you call it, with enough slaps on the hands.

  • Stacey

I hate Stockton and people suck!!!

  • Ron

This is what you get, when you live in a City with Brotha thugs and illegal roaches!

  • david

they might just kick in the door of someone who just doesn’t feel like opening the door and get shot dead. surprised no one is sitting quietly waiting for them to strike then blast them with a 12 ga. shotgun. you can’t miss with a shotgun up close and personal.

  • H?e who hates little yappy dogs

I kicked a Yorkie once that had tried to bite me….
