San Juan School District Employees' Personal Date Released Online

CARMICHAEL, Calif. (AP) -- A Sacramento-area school district has notified about 4,000 employees and former employees that their confidential information has been compromised.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the San Juan Unified School District this week sent out letters informing them of the data breach.

District spokesman Trent Allen says an employee copied sensitive data onto a flash drive to do work at home, but accidentally uploaded it onto a church website while doing volunteer work.

Allen says district officials learned of the breach last week when someone did an online search of his name and discovered personal information. The district has worked with the church and search engines to remove the data from the Internet.

Allen says the district now bars the copying of confidential information onto flash drives.
