YUBA CITY, Calif. (CBS13) — The first day of June brought weather that seemed more suited for a different season and a different region of the country, with severe weather that spawned several funnel clouds and at least one tornado while dropping heavy hail and rain across the Central Valley.

Reports of the nasty weather streamed out from Davis after a severe thunderstorm cell moved across Yolo County, prompting reports of marble-sized hail and sparking funnel cloud sightings from residents and UC Davis students who snapped photos of the unusual phenomenon between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning shortly after 3:00 p.m. when the system gained strength over Natomas and began dumping hail more than an inch in diameter at times north of Sacramento.

Funnel cloud sightings persisted throughout the afternoon, but a touchdown wasn’t confirmed until a new storm cell sudden gained strength over Yuba County, dropping a twister into a rural area a few miles north of Yuba City.

Motorists and residents photographed the large funnel cloud as it trailed over the area for several minutes, apparently dissipating before causing any structural damage or injuries.

Dozens of lightning strikes split open trees but did not cause any other reported damage, according to officials.

The storm system’s instability became less dangerous when it reached the Sierra foothills, but the upper elevations were under a winter storm warning by Wednesday night. Snow is expected to fall as low as 5,000 feet, and weather experts say as much as six inches of powder could accumulate at elevations about 6,500 feet.

High winds could make traffic dangerous across the icy Sierra roadways throughout the night. Drivers are urged to use caution.

Its going to get worse before it gets better, and the nay-sayers about global warming with get what is coming to them.

    1. Matt says:

What does this have to do with the global warming myth?

    2. CrazyAlGore says:

The tempatures are down? How is this global warming? You are one cazy SOB.

      1. Edward says:

Planet wide OVERALL global warming causes unusual changes in OVERALL weather conditions and climate patterns. For example, unusually cold weather in May. And tornadoes in Massachusetts and Yolo county, California, both of which occurred yesterday. If you’re not worried, you’re not paying attention.

I thought we lived in California!!!!!

    1. Danyelle says:

  4. Tapestry says:

When I was a kid the spring weather in the bay area was just like it is now.
Weather has cycles, drought seasons and rainy seasons, they seem to spread 20-30 years apart, so that some don’t remember the last one. I found a list of tornades since 1888 in California they are rare but not unheard of:
Let’s keep the global warming/cooling fairy tales to the movies and the History channels, its all normal and natural something you would think people in CA would ‘get’.

Nay,Nay, Nay! What does .01% of temperature change have to do with this storm?
We have had numerous storms in the past much worse and no one said anything about Global Warming. Nay, Nay, Nay!

The area I was born and raised in in Mass got hit with a tornado today, and now here. That’s cool! And my bro in Florida says the swamps are drying up and burning down. The alligators are leaving. And my friend in Wyoming says some areas have 500% snow pack. Nothing much going on up here in the foothills!

    1. Kristen Lange says:

Yeah, I have family in Chicopee… totally surprised about the tornadoes there and how big they got!

  7. c newsome says:

its all the marijuana smoke in california that causes funny weather.

  8. Rafael Gomez says:

its wierd that this is happening in June last year it was sunny by this year

  9. whew says:

We finally get some normal weather and folks get excited, years ago in Stockton we would see funnel clouds EVERY year and once in a while one would touch down and make a mess but know one was hurt bad. We also saw a dang good tornado funnel over Davis today much larger than the one shown, some folks at the office complex were heading for their cars also saw it and ran . This one was approximately over the Cranebrook apts and the area where the Campbells plant used to be on the corner of J St and Covell Blvd.
It was scarey to say the least.

  11. rusty galleger says:

…………..global warning doesn’t exist, its made up. humans are polluting the earth w/ carbon monoxide/dioxide as far as quality of air to breathe. thats it.

  12. Kristen Lange says:

Wow, I was totally excited about a tornado in Yuba City- but then I saw this! That is nothing more than a glorified dust devil! California thunderstorms are way lame.

  13. Marty says:

I was coming home from Reno today and it was snowing on 80. SNOW! In June! What’s up with that? When summer does come, if it does, it’ll all come at once and it will suck.

Oh, and climate change is not a myth. Earth is not just a dead ball of mud and we need to stop acting as if it’s our garbage can. The planet is a living thing and it changes every now and then. But humanity is not helping.

  14. FED UP GUY 1 says:

Everytime we get some rough weather all the TV stations around here go into “stormwatch” and all we get for HOURS is the same old shi(r)t. After about five minutes I get fed up with it and turn the TV off. We don’t need to keep hearing the same stuff being repeated over and over again and again !!!!!! There actually is news to report that doesn’t have anything to do with a little hale !!!!

  15. Linda Lee says:

Sorry about those tornados that followed me from NORTH CAROLINA !!!!!

  16. Linda Lee says:

Thought I left those tornados in NORTH CAROLINA !! We took pictures of yesterdays tornado over our north yuba city home !!
