Report: Sacramento Lost 80,000 Jobs Over 3 Years

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The Sacramento region lost nearly 12 percent of its jobs since 2008, according to new statistics from federal officials.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics says the Sacramento region -- including the metropolitan area around Arden-Arcade and Roseville -- lost approximately 80,000 jobs across the board from its peak around June 2008.

Slightly more than 10,000 of those jobs came from public sector jobs, and the unemployment rate for Sacramento County is still hanging around 12.5 percent.

Surrounding counties have seen similar job loss trends, according to the most recent BLS numbers. Yolo County is facing an unemployment rate of more than 12.5 percent, Yuba County's unemployment has slowly fallen this year but still hangs at approximately 18.5 percent; San Joaquin County has an unemployment rate of about 17 percent; and Stanislaus County is facing a rate of about 17.5 percent.

Since 2008, the U.S. has lost 6.7 million jobs.
