Lodi Names New Police Chief

LODI (CBS13) -- The City of Lodi has named Captain Mark Helms as its new, permanent police chief.

Cpt. Helms is a 25 year veteran of the Stockton Police Department where he served as Deputy Chief of Police from January 2005 to May 2010.

"It's a privilege for me to be able to hire someone with Captain Helms' caliber and depth of experience," said Lodi City Manager Konradt Bartlam. "He has all the qualifications we were looking for in a chief and more. The Lodi community will benefit from his leadership."

He replaces interim police Chiefs Ray Samuels and Gary Benincasa. Lodi hasn't had a permanent chief since April 2010.
