River Emergencies Rise Along With The Temperature
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – As the temperature goes up, so does the number of emergencies on Sacramento-area rivers as well as heat-related health emergencies.
On Tuesday evening, as temperatures topped 100 degrees, fire crews rushed from rescue to rescue.
Crews were called to a river rescue after 22 college students were thrown from their rafts on the American River, shocked by the cold water.
Not long after, another couple had to be rescued upstream.
Fire fighters have been trying to get the word out about how cold and fast area rivers are running but some people just do not heed the warnings.
"We continued to try and try and it's frustrating to see the same incident happened over and over again," said Sacramento Fire Department Assistant Chief Niko King.
Just minutes after talking with CBS13, King was called downtown to help a homeless man in a heat-related call.
