Driver Of Truck In Amtrak Accident Identified

RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities have identified the driver of a truck that crashed into an Amtrak passenger car in Nevada, killing himself and five people aboard the train.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said Monday that 43-year-old Lawrence R. Valli of Winnemuca was killed when his semitrailer slammed into the side of the car Friday at a highway crossing about 70 miles east of Reno.

The NHP also released the names of two passengers who were killed -- 58-year-old Francis Knox and her 18-year-old daughter, Karly Knox, of Seward, Neb.

The NHP says authorities are still trying to identify other victims and their names will be released as soon as possible.

Amtrak's California Zephyr was en route from Chicago to Emeryville, Calif., with 204 passengers and 14 crew members when the accident happened.
