SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CBS13) – Part of a busy Sacramento roadway is closed this morning as crews continue to work to repair a water main that burst Tuesday evening.
The cast iron water main burst around 5:30 p.m. near Del Paso and Rio Linda boulevards flooding several blocks of Del Paso.
Water gushed from the pipe covering the street with up to two feet of water. Local business owners scrambled to fill sandbags to keep the water from entering their stores. Still a handful of stores have some water damage.
“The water was going pretty fast. It didn’t want to stop,” said store owner Hector Olazab. “It was raining pretty hard and it just came out of nowhere.”
City crews dug a hole to get to the broken section of pipe and are still pumping water out of the hole. They will then repair the pipe, fill in the hole and repave the street.
They are estimating that the repairs will be complete by noon Wednesday.
