Level 3 Hazmat Situation Forcing Evacuations In South Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13)–  A hazardous materials situation in South Sacramento has forced dozens of businesses to be evacuated and sent at least two people to the hospital.

Sacramento City fire crews were called to the 8500 block of Elder Creek Road for a tractor trailer fire shortly after 8:00 this morning.

When they arrived, they found a white vapor coming from the truck.

More than 50 businesses have been evacuated and roads in the area closed off.  Buildings on Sky Creek Drive, Light Sky Drive, Blue Sky Court and Younger Creek Drive all have been evacuated.

Just before noon, fire fighters opened the back of the tractor-trailer to try and determine the source.  They first thought the truck may have been carrying batteries.  Now they believe it's several different materials that are creating a chemical reaction.
