CHP: SUV Driver To Blame For Deadly Fresno Bus Crash

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -- A new California Highway Patrol report places sole blame for a fatal crash involving a Greyhound bus on an 18-year-old SUV driver who authorities say was drunk at the time.

The report released Thursday says the bus driver had no way of avoiding the SUV, which was left without lights when it overturned early July 22, 2010, on the main highway through Fresno.

The crash left six people dead, including SUV driver Sylvia Garay of Dinuba, her two passengers, the bus driver and two bus passengers. Twenty-two people were injured.

The bus, SUV and a nearby Honda tumbled over an embankment in the crash. Authorities determined after the accident that Garay was legally drunk when she hit a concrete barrier and overturned, blocking the left northbound lane of Highway 99.
