Shots Fired At Stockton Police Department

STOCKTON (CBS13)  - The search is on for the suspect or suspects who fired shots at the Stockton Police Department offices.

The shooting happened at about 8:50 Wednesday night at the downtown department building on east Market Street.

Officials say several officers were in the parking lot outside the building when they hear four to five gunshots.  At least two bullets hit the building.

Investigators believe the shots were fired from the cross town freeway just south of the police department.  They also believe the shots were directed at the police department and not a random act.

Police have no suspects at this time.

Stockton Police say this is the tenth incident where someone has shot at property or cars in the last five days.  It's unclear if they are connected.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the police department on their non emergency number at 209-937-8377.  Callers can remain anonymous.
