Automatic Weapon Found During Search For Suspect Who Injured Deputy

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies discovered an automatic weapon and a cache of bullets while searching for a suspect who roughed up an officer before getting away.

The incident began around 9:45 this morning when deputies were called about a suspicious red Cadillac parked on Dawn Way near Howe Avenue.

When deputies arrived they found a man in the car and tried to make contact. The man got out and began struggling with an officer. Both the suspect and officer ended up the ground with the officer getting several scrapes.

An officer attempted to use a taser to subdue the man but he was able to escape.

Deputies began searching for the suspect and set up a perimeter near the 2500 block of Howe Avenue.

Deputies then got a tip that the suspect may be inside an apartment. When officers entered, they found two men hiding inside. They also found an AK47 and 400 rounds. Both men in the apartment were arrested.

It's unclear if they are connected to the original suspect.
