New Airport Terminal Project To Finish Early

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Travelers will enjoy more restaurants and more gates at the Sacramento International Airport months ahead of schedule, according to airport officials.

The Terminal B Project is proceeding under budget and ahead of schedule, and instead of opening as scheduled in Spring 2012, the ribbon will be cut this fall.

Airport representatives said the grand opening of the new terminal improvements could be as soon as October 6.

"Everything is being being completed on time and on budget so we're ready to open this terminal," said spokesperson Gina Swankie.

The recession forced some aspects of the project to be put on hold, such as a new parking structure and a hotel connected to the terminal, bringing the total price tag down from $1.27 billion to $1.03 billion.

Officials said they want to open the terminal as far ahead of the holiday travel season as possible.
