Stockton Nursing Home Blamed For Death Of Resident

STOCKTON, Calif. (AP) -- A Stockton nursing home must pay a $100,000 fine after a state investigation concluded that inadequate care led to the death of a resident.

The California Department of Public Health said Friday it gave Creekside Care Center a "AA" citation, the most severe penalty under law.

According to its website, Creekside is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility.

State investigators found that in 2008 Creekside attendants failed to monitor an injured patient and failed to tell the patient's doctor about changes in the patient's condition, which turned fatal.

Judy Treloar, administrator for parent company Sunbridge Healthcare, says the company is contesting the citation. She declined further comment.

State fines range from $100 for Class B violations to a maximum $100,000 for more serious AA violations.
