Anti-Violence Group Rallies For A Safer Stockton

STOCKTON (CBS13) -- A Stockton woman whose brother was murdered has organized an anti-violence group to urge city leaders to do more to reduce crime.

The group rallied in front of City Hall today.

"Our group is SAVE, it stands for 'stop all violence everyone,'" said Tyra Vickers-Kearney. It's a movement that we're putting together. What we're trying to do is just stop all the violence that's occurring in our city."

Vickers-Kearney's own brother's murder remains unsolved, and she believes no one is off-limits to crime.

Recently, two bullets hit the Stockton Police Department. And at Waterfront Warehouse, a place that rarely sees crime, surveillance cameras caught customers at a restaurant fleeing a shooting in broad daylight.

Then 36 hours later there was a stabbing in the same area.

"I mean I love my city, but the crime rate is horrible," said another group member, Tyrone Vickers.

The SAVE group says it's time to reclaim Stockton.

"If it means that we have to do fundraisers to get our officers back, that's what we're going to have to do," Vickers Kearney said.
