Police: Fatal Shooting Near Family Court Was Accidental

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- The shooting death of a woman near a family court Wednesday afternoon was apparently an accident, authorities said.

The Sacramento Police Department said the 19-year-old victim was planning to meet friends at a nearby Starbucks on Power Inn Road when two gun shots rang out, startling witnesses and prompting authorities to close off the scene for investigators.

Bystanders said the victim was killed almost instantly, and police said there were several signs that the wounds were self-inflicted.

After combing through the site of the incident, authorities said the woman triggered the shots on accident. The circumstances leading up to the fatal incident have not been released.
