Another Suspect In Custody After Deadly Armored Car Robbery

PINOLE, Calif. (AP) -- Two suspects were in custody Thursday on suspicion of murder and other crimes in an attempted armored car robbery outside a Northern California bank that left another suspect dead and a police officer seriously wounded.

William Fuller, 30, of El Cerrito and Freddie Daniel, 24, of San Pablo also face possible charges of attempted murder, conspiracy and robbery, Pinole Police Chief John Hardester said.

Daniel was hospitalized in critical condition after being wounded in Wednesday's attempted heist in broad daylight. Police suspect Fuller drove him to the hospital after they fled the scene outside a Wells Fargo bank branch in Pinole.

Daniel's older brother, Pierre Daniel, 25, also of San Pablo, was fatally shot by officers after ignoring their orders to drop his gun during a shootout, Hardester said.

Pierre Daniel tried to run away with a bag of cash after he was shot, but he collapsed and died in the middle of a busy street, witnesses said.

Fuller and Daniel could be held responsible for the killing because it occurred while they were allegedly committing a crime.

Police Officer Brian "Justin" Takacs, who was shot in his left shoulder, was scheduled for surgery on Thursday, Hardester said.

Police were trying to determine whether Takacs, an Air Force veteran who has been with Pinole police for two years, was shot by the suspect or another officer.

The incident began after two men armed with guns approached a female security guard who had left the bank with a bag of money and was heading toward the armored vehicle.

She was shot after trying to stop the men. She is currently hospitalized in serious condition.
