Man Accused Of Dragging Dog Behind Truck

View Comments

OLIVEHURST (CBS13) — A dog is slowly recovering after being dragged by her neck and run over by her owner’s truck earlier this month, authorities said.

Witnesses told police they saw Baby, an American Bulldog, being helplessly pulled down a street by Wayne McFee’s truck, the rope around her neck only breaking loose when McFee allegedly put the vehicle in reverse and ran her over on purpose.

Baby suffered a broken leg and other series injuries and wasn’t expected to survive her injuries, but thanks to efforts from the organization One More Dog Rescue, the wounded animal is slowly regaining weight but may still have to have her broken leg and badly hurt tail amputated.

McFee fled the scene immediately after the incident earlier in August, according to authorities, but was arrested late last week on animal cruelty charges.

James Morrison, McFee’s friend, said the suspect didn’t intentionally hurt the dog and only panicked when he realized how bad Baby’s injuries were.

“He should have went back,” Morrison said. “He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body, he really doesn’t.”

Baby will soon be available for adoption from One More Dog Rescue.

Really? Can we put YOU down instead? It would certainly make society a better place…

    • Kat Heupel

Can we drag you by the neck behind a pickup back over the top of you and leave you in the street. What is wrong with you ?

    • ryan

      Really:

      Sorry, they don’t accept pesos.

    • IndiLyndi

Thank you for caring for Baby and for giving us the info of how we can help. Lots of us appreciate what you’re doing!

      • Marcy

Sometimes it is hard to hear all the negativity from people like you see on this Blog. So please know that I appreciate the supportive comments even more. I have volunteers and staff that dedicate their time (FREE) to do this. I doubt the negative people responding do much to benefit the community or contribute to a “better world”. I hope I am wrong.

    • IndiLyndi

I’m putting a donation jar on our store counter this am for “Donations to euthanize ignorant jerks like Really?”. ;|

  • Really?

How about the vet donate the surgery?

    • kevinb

If people want to donate money that is none of your business, and it doesn’t affect your life in any way. Mind your own business simpleton.

      • jerrylarrygaryterrycarybarry

Kevinb you sound little a simpleton fool.

      • Selmers

I think Kevin is the vet! LOL!

      • Marcy

        Kevinb,
Thank you for your positive outlook. I am the Founder of the Rescue Group that has BABY and if anyone would like to donate directly to the Veterinarian Hospital rather that the Rescue. They can send it to Rocklin Ranch Veterinary Hospital in C/O “Baby” 2311 Sunset Blvd. Rocklin, CA 95765
Perhaps people are concerned with how my Rescue spends the donations and if this is the case they can send it directly.

    • Marcy

The surgery is about $3,000 and he is donating almost all of it. The cost for supplies and anesthetics and other things you are not aware of will be about $1200 and then there are all the medications for her. The vet has also gone way out of his way trying to get additional funding for our organization as a whole. So I think he has done enough. Besides how would the vet make a living if he constantly gave his business away. I know how many times people come into vet hospital needed free stuff………..I managed a vet hospital and had to explain to people that it couldn’t be free. The best I could do was a payment plan.

      • Rusty

But let’s be honest. Vets these days try to extract as much as they can from sympathetic unsuspecting pet owners by performing all sorts of overpriced unnecessary procedures and tests. They are on par with used car salesmen. Dentists are becoming the same way.

      • DixieMay

You’re doing fantastic work and it’s appreciated! Also the kind and generous efforts of the Vet are impressive! Thank you all!

  • Kat Heupel

What do you think this guy could have restrained this dog any more than strapping it to his bumper. Sac may be a cow-town but There isn’t a responsible statement anyone could make to a tick like this to do anything different.

  • Musicdorian

Restrained? Where does the story mention restraints? The dog was tied to the truck, but it doesn’t mention anything about the configuration of how the dog was bound. Backing the trunk up (why is it surprising that it is a truck owner, let me guess, he wears a baseball style hat too) and running over the dog sounds like it rules out simply bad restraints.

    • bballhat

hey, hey — I often wear a baseball hat and I don’t run over dogs. I do try to run over those damn bicyclists, though!

“Didn’t intentionally hurt the dog” ” Doesn’t have a mean bone in his body” Yeah Right. It’s a shame that there are not tougher laws on animal cruelty. Bet this guy was arrested for a misdemeaner instead of a felony. This man is purely mean and evil. I hope that Baby can recover and that she is adopted by a family that will love her. It will take a whole lot of love and patience to help her work through the trauma of this and probably other long time abuse at the hands of a madman.

  • Crazy

Punishment: Drag behind truck, get ran over, oh, and as far as your injuries go, suffer.

  • Whitey

“He should have went back?” Great… dumb rednecks. Can I donate to put the owner down?

    • Feapaw

Me too!! I’d donate to have all animal abusers put down.

  • river

I am all for dragging this redneck behind my honda!!!! Oh and about Sacramento. I can bet this idiot is a transplant. Please if you don’t like Sacramento go back to wherever you came from, it would be great to have the Sacramento I grew up with in the 50′s and 60′s.

  • Animal lover

Not a mean bone in his body? Tieing a dog by his neck to a back of a truck means the owner is a real sweetheart and doesn’t have a mean bone in his body? I think the owner and his freind should be put down, both seem like useless people and a waste of space!!

    • Gabrielle Peterson Beisley

It seems quite convenient for the majority of people to make disparaging remarks behind the cover of a screen name….WEAK! As for the mob mentality, please. where was your “do-gooding” ass before this happened? Isn’t there a cause in your own life for you to champion while the court system figures this one out?? Be grateful the animal is om the mend. Isn’t that the thing everyone should be grateful for??

  • laurie209

This makes me sick. An evil person allowed to run the streets and abuse animals. I hope the judge has enough guts to give him some hard jail time and one hefty fine. What is wrong with people like this. They turn out to be serial killers. Get him behind bars now!

  • Graham

People who elevate animals to a human level have a mental disorder. I read all these bleeding heart comments calling for the death of this guy and people wanting to give money for this ANIMAL yet you don’t see this type of passionate comments when a HUMAN child is murdered or raped. If you cared as much for our children including the ones many have murdered in the womb our society wouldn’t be as messed up as it is. Bunch of HYPOCRITES!!!

    • DixieMay

Graham- Maybe you can explain how you know from the posters comments that they don’t care about injured children? You must have one HECK of a crystal ball!

You’re accusations are completely inappropriate and willfully ignorant if you truly believe them. Maybe you should go on the internets more often and learn to use the google because I see calls for the death penalty, threats of 2nd admendment solutions and volunteers for firing squads in nearly every article about the harming or death of a child.

You’re equating people’s love for animals with a mental disorder shows how sick you are with personal mental problems! Your disorder displays itself clearly in your belief that you know best for everyone else and that you also have the right to force those beliefs all. Get over yourself man!!! (and maybe go find a discussion that relates in any way to the topic you want to rant about?)

      • Graham

I make a comment on how ridiculous it is to elevate animals to human status and people like you become indignant. You are proof of how messed up we have become as a society. So as long as I say something like “oh poor little dog” or “this man deserves life in prison for this atrocity” then maybe my post would be accepted. The fact that this dog being hurt is even considered news is just stupid as well as those who consider this newsworthy.

    • kat

ALL innocents human and animal should be defended to an extreme…Any offense to either should be treated to the full extent and beyond the law. Innocents have only us Human BEings to help and defend the ones who haven’t the voice!!!!

    • Tom

OOH! my gosh Graham you selfish LIBERAL how does this story have anything to do with ABORTION .And for you to make such a heartless statment about animals .I can tell by your statement you like abusing animals your self SHAME ! ON YOU and I hope i’m standing right next to you when you do then the story will be about you.

    • DixieMay

LOL Graham! Your “comment” was unrelated to the topic. Uninformed about what pet lovers feel. And an unprovable )and completely insulting) accusation that animal lovers have mental problems. And you assert that we are all are uncompassionate toward children because we care about this dog.

You show your intelligence by falling back on middle school name calling to make a point. FYI Graham…when discussing a topic as an adult we use facts, real life situations and provable information…not schoolyard bullying and name calling. Grow up or go home.

  • Marcy

Hi , I am the Founder and President of the Rescue “OneMoreDog” and the dog is doing very well. There is NO reason to put her down. I am former vet nurse and former Vet Hospital Manager and I know when it is time to make that decision. When I first was contacted by Animal Care Center I did consider that upon my initial exam with the vet. But I decided to give her a little time and she would let me know. SHE IS AWESOME! Never cried out in pain and just needed time for the swelling to come down and now she needs her leg and tail removed and she can live a happy life. We have had many dogs that have ended up with 3 limbs and they don’t care. BABY even wants to play and roll around in the grass. If you had seen the news on FOX 40 she looked happy. Unfortunately the Channel 13 news clip didn’t get a chance to see that. ALSO I wonder WHY people even bother to put negative things on BLOG. It isn’t what this world needs. Thank you for those supporters of BABY and what we do.

  • Hay bballhat i wear a baseball hat and i run over those damn people who run over bicyclists and dogs we do not need your kind.eye for an eye don’t make a comment. what ever you have to say will be stupid. if you can’t say anything intelligent don’t say anything at all. ( one more dog) Thank you for caring for baby and all animals.

So do we only remember our civil rights when it elevates us high enough to see over the tops of our neighbors heads? The man is innocent until proven guilty….remember? I am an animal lover too, but know that the sensationalism that the busybodies and the media create can damage people’s lives irreparably. And why the snide and less than intelligent attacks on a man who, unlike most of you, actually has some knowledge of the character of the person in question? Is he now guilty by association? Wouldn’t the right thing to do be to pray for the speedy recovery of the dog (donate if it makes you feel better) and let the justice system handle worry about the rest?

  • I’m not perfect

What about the rabbit the dog killed or the childs safety that lives in the home? What about the man that’s trying to protected his family? Sometimes accidents happen and people panic and make a bad decision. 100 good decisions and 1 bad decision, ‘HANG HIM’. Before you judge somebody, think about your past decisions and how many of them you would do different.

Hey just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your content seem to be running off the screen in Opera. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Many thanks
