Stockton School Principal Attacked By Angry Parent

STOCKTON (CBS13) – A principal at a Stockton elementary school was taken to the hospital after being attacked by an angry parent Monday morning, according to school district officials.

Fillmore Elementary Principal Evangelina Ramos was punched twice by a woman who was apparently angry over the school's dress code, according to Stockton Unified Assistant Superintendent Dan Wright.

"Out of nowhere, she struck her a couple of times in the face," Wright said. "She was immediately separated by a couple of staff members."

Wright said Principal Ramos told the mother her third grade child's T-shirt with skulls on it was not appropriate for the school. The child was told to change shirts or turn the shirt inside out in order to return to class.

As Ramos and the child's mother discussed the issue around 9:30 a.m., the woman apparently punched Ramos and was then restrained by two other adults. However, she was able to free herself and punch the principal again and then fled the campus.

Ramos, who is in her first year as principal at the school, was taken to Dameron Hospital. She's expected to be fine.

School district police later arrested 29-year-old Pami Alaine Gibbs.

Gibbs was booked on two felony charges of battery and criminal threats and three misdemeanors, including hate crime. Her bail was set at $134,000.

"I can't believe someone would do that at school to a principal," said Christina Lopez, another parent at the school.

The school has implemented a new uniform policy but isn't actively enforcing it yet. The issue was the skulls on the boy's shirt.
