OMG! Billboard Defaced In Auburn

AUBURN (CBS13) -- A catchy billboard advertising diamond rings was vandalized with a homophobic slur -- and it's been there for a week.

Neighboring business owner Brian Ahlberg is tired of looking up at what he considers, a message of hate. Vandals used spray paint to alter the "OMG" next to a sparkling diamond on the billboard for Rogers Jewelers to the gay slur by adding an H, changing the G to an O and adding an s. Right under that the billboard reads "Sacramento's largest selection."

"It makes people feel uncomfortable," said Ahlberg, who owns Jocelyn's Foothill Grooming.

He said he called the Auburn Police Department immediately last Wednesday morning and that an officer came out and took a report. But when CBS13 called Auburn PD, they said they hadn't received any complaints. They also said they aren't investigating at this point because they have no suspects.

"It should have been given better attention," Ahlberg said.

But not everyone was that worked up about the altered billboard.

"Kids being creative, that's what I think it's all about," said Guy Cables of Sierra Outdoor Center.

A spokesperson for Rogers Jewelers of Sacramento seemed surprised when CBS13 called Tuesday, and said he had no idea about the vandalism. He said the company would take the billboard down immediately and contact Auburn PD. graffiti
